PROOF IT WORKED!

The proof is in the pudding ... er ... ah ... I mean ... the COLOR CATCHER! Remember my writing about washing quilts the other day. The focus of the article was all about the batting and the lovely soft antique crinkley look and feel of the quilt after the washing, but there was something else I had totally forgotten to tell you about until I did the next load of wash.

One of the quilts I washed was pieced with 30's reproduction prints with bright red 1" squares in the sashing cornerstones. I also used the same bright red solid fabric for the binding. Since my 30's reproduction fabric stash consists of mostly fat quarters and rarely are the fabrics ever totally saturated with dye (no overly strong colors) I figure it is highly unlikely the colors will run when I wash the quilt.

But, here was a quilt literally waving a red flag in my face. Best be taking preventative measures before pushing the start button my new washer. I tossed in the color catcher, breathed a sigh of relief when transferring the quilt from the washer to the dryer and never thought another thing about it until the next load.

That's when I saw the used color catcher ... as I was loading my delicates for a gentle cycle wash a couple of days later. If ever a picture was worth a thousand words this might be it.

Highly unlikely I will ever wash another quilt without tossing in a color catcher sheet ... and just to be safe ... even with quilts made with pre-washed fabrics. Who knows, I may even start using it with my regular laundry loads, too!
